Book 6: Spirit Controlled Temperament

By the time I read and internalized Rebound and Keep Moving and Spirituality by Grace, my spiritual life reached a level of deep commitment. I wanted to be faithful in all aspects of my life and I wanted to please God in everything that I did. I also became more sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit either directly or through others.

Many in my church and college noticed this radical transformation in my life and attitude and appreciated it much. Many even told me of their appreciation, and that was a great encouragement to me. I am thankful to all of them. At the same time, a minority of them started telling me about things where I needed to change. For example, once a person told me that while I was open and frank about everything, it could often hurt those who are the object of my frank opinion. He advised me to be more discreet in my speech. This was one of the best advises that I received during my college years.

I very much appreciated the way people helped me to live closer to God, and I often used to spend much time with members of the Youth Fellowship that was very active in my church. Comments from others helped me to see myself the way others saw me. This was helpful to me. During one of these conversations a member of the Youth Fellowship told me about a book that she had started reading and that I might love to read. She said that the – profusely illustrated book – offered detailed analysis of our nature, our strengths, our weaknesses and exactly how to overcome them.

While I was not exactly comfortable with books in English, the idea that the book tells how to discover and overcome one’s weaknesses excited me very much. That is exactly what I wanted to do as the next stage of my Christian growth. I immediately visited the Christian Book Shop, spotted the book, and found it was on sale. That was God’s provision because I did not have much money at hand and I could not have bought it at its actual price. God was taking care of my spiritual needs as usual.
